It is recommended for people with this condition to get more healthy bacteria in their diets. These probiotics can be found in many natural supplements and pills and have proved to be more helpful to some people than using conventional medicines. It is also recommended that people with ulcerative colitis do not have fermented dairy products such as yogurt in the early part of the recovery process. It may be hard to digest early on. When the condition flares up or becomes worse, it is best to eat soft plant foods such as zucchini, white rice and soups that are not too harsh such as potato. These foods might include: sunflower, corn, cottonseed, sesame oil and peanut oil. Omega 3 fatty acids however are good for this condition and may help with inflammation and recovery. Wild salmon, organic eggs and cod liver oil are good sources of omega 3 fatty acids for people with this condition. It is best to avoid refined sugars and high carbohydrate diets because they can cause problems within the digestive tract making ulcerative colitis worse. Finally, it is a good idea to try to limit emotional stress or know how to better manage it because this can cause inflammation as well.
